Guangzhou, Aug 17, 2022 -- The 5G industry will bring global energy conservation and emission reduction far beyond its own energy consumption and carbon emissions. Entrepreneurs, experts and scholars from the fields of electricity, electricians, power generation, communications, and petrochemical gathered at the "5G and Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutral Forum" at the 2022 5G Conference on Monday morning to discuss ways to develop cooperation under the background of dual carbon. All parties at the forum agreed that 5G will shoulder the task of facilitating the digital transformation of thousands of industries, so as to help achieve the goal of "carbon neutrality" and "carbon peak".

Chen Weijiang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and former deputy chief engineer of State Grid, talked about his understanding of the mutual promotion and joint development of 5G and "dual-carbon" goals from the perspective of the evolution of power system. He believes that electrification is the main battlefield to promote the green development of energy and help achieve the goal of "dual carbon". Under the "double carbon" goal, green energy saving has become the development direction of 5G communication system itself. He stressed that the application of 5G technology in the energy field and the realization of the "dual carbon" goal requires the deep crossover and organic integration of different disciplines and industries. He hoped that more innovative ideas could be developed for the win-win cooperation between 5G and "dual carbon" through discussion and exchange.

Rao Hong, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief scientist of China Southern Power Grid Corporation, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Building a New Power System Supported by Digital Grid Construction". "Energy is the main battlefield and electricity is the main force to achieve the dual-carbon goal." Rao Hong pointed out that new energy + coal power is the key path for the development and evolution of power supply in the future. The scale of new energy increases and the structure of power supply changes. Digital power grid improves the digitalization and intellectualization level of source, network, load, storage and other links, and comprehensively supports the construction of a new power system. Digital empowerment will build a safe, reliable, green, efficient and intelligent modern power grid and give a strong boost to the construction of the digital economy.

Wang Jiye, Deputy chief information engineer of State Grid, delivered a keynote speech entitled "5G Fusion Application of New Power System". He said 5G is one of the "bases" of the digital economy and an important part of China's efforts to promote new digital infrastructure. Through 5G, the interaction between supply and demand of large power grid users can be improved, which will help realize the dual-carbon goal. China Power Grid has been committed to the research of key technologies, putting forward end-to-end solutions, white papers on 5G positioning technology of electricity, white papers on network architecture integration of construction, air and earth, and customized research and development of 5G equipment for power business, including lightweight chips, ESM-based power 5G modules, lightweight modules, etc.

Pang Zhiqing, executive director of Daqing Oilfield Co., LTD. 's New Energy Division, delivered a keynote speech entitled "5G helps Daqing Oilfield Double Carbon Strategy". In the speech, he introduced that Daqing Oilfield is not only a large energy producer but also a large energy user, and the task of realizing the dual carbon goal is very difficult. In the process of exploring the realization of the dual carbon goal, Daqing Oilfield has built a non-walled, industrial park chemical plant. According to the actual production of the oilfield, combined with the source and composition of carbon emissions in the production process, Daqing Oilfield implements carbon emission reduction measures from the aspects of energy saving and efficiency improvement, clean substitution, CCUS and smart energy management and control.

Liu Xiaojia, deputy general manager of China Telecom Post & Telecommunications Consulting & Design Institute Co., LTD., delivered a keynote speech titled "5G Enabling Intelligent Energy helps carbon reach Peak carbon neutrality". He believes that low-carbon transformation, energy transformation and digital transformation are the development trends of the industry. As a telecom operator, he should not only focus on his own electricity consumption, but also think about how to share the dividends and achievements of information technology development for all walks of life from the perspective of infrastructure construction. In his speech, he shared the practice of "green combination" of 5G with infrastructure, old building renovation, offshore wind power and other application scenarios of China Telecom Post & Telecommunications Consulting and Design Institute Co., LTD.

Chen Yurong, deputy general manager of China Mobile (Shanghai) Industrial Research Institute, delivered a keynote speech titled "China Mobile 5G+ Industrial Internet Double Carbon Outlook". She pointed out that the transformation of 5G applications from "model houses" to green and low-carbon "commercial houses" should be accelerated, and 5G standardized applications and products should be "precipitated" as much as possible to make the digital base more powerful. China Mobile, as an operator, is very concerned about the state of energy use. Last year, the energy use plan was upgraded to "carbon peak carbon neutral" overall deployment. By deploying AI algorithms in more than 10 provinces, China Mobile prefabricated them into its systems to make energy efficiency management smarter.

Lu Jinjun, president of Industry Division of China Telecom Government and Enterprise Information Service Business Group, delivered a keynote speech titled "China Telecom 5G Energy Saving and Enabling Practice". In his view, the joint construction and sharing of 5G stations is itself a major measure to reduce costs, avoid duplication of construction and reduce energy consumption. He said that China Telecom and China Unicom have jointly built the world's first, largest and fastest 5G SA network, which has brought huge economic and social benefits.

Chen Danqing, Huawei site Energy Global marketing sales director, delivered a keynote speech titled "Green Energy target Network 2.0, helping operators to double carbon target". He explained that the core purpose of Green Energy Target Network 2.0 is to support operators to achieve carbon neutrality through the establishment of index system and management system. Chen Danqing said: "The green energy target network 1.0 mainly focuses on the rapid deployment and construction of 5G network and low OPEX, and the carbon index has not been refined. The 2.0 added core indicators such as carbon emission/energy efficiency, and built green sites and green data centers to help operators achieve the double carbon target."

Fang Leming, chief engineer of 5G of Citic Mobile, delivered a keynote speech titled "The promise of Double Carbon, 5G Enabling 234". On the one hand, from the perspective of technological progress, 5G provides multi-stream, low-delay and high-speed public services with large bandwidth and multiple antennas, which better supports the development of the digital economy, he said. On the other hand, focusing on the three key points of 5G equipme-level, site-level and network-level, CITIC Mobile has implemented energy-saving solutions for 5G base stations and made a multi-pronged effort to reduce 5G energy consumption, making positive contributions to the "double carbon" commitment.

Wang GUI, Vice President of Harbin Electric Co., Ltd. delivered a keynote speech titled "5G and Digital Transformation of Power generation Equipment". He introduced that Harbin Electric power currently uses 5G, reducing cost and increasing efficiency significantly. For example, the production equipment connected to 5G will greatly improve the efficiency of equipment use and troubleshooting. The use of 5G+AI technology can realize potential risk warning and make smart power plants safer. Presided over by Qiu Yufeng, former vice president of Global Energy Internet Research Institute, Chen Yurong, Lu Jinjun, chief engineer Zhong Zhigang, Fang Leming, Wang GUI held a roundtable discussion on the topic of "How 5G can help double carbon goal". Participants at the forum agreed that the "double carbon" enabled by 5G has great potential, and it is necessary to further reduce 5G energy consumption, and through 5G enabled thousands of industries and businesses to jointly embark on the "green fast lane" and create a more wonderful future.
