/PRCWT/Guangzhou, April 6, 2023——Being on the internet, you’re bound to run into text that’s in a language you don’t know. Maybe it’s a comic, a comment, or a tweet. Sometimes, you NEED to translate something! Well, it’s possible to quickly translate text on your Android phone without breaking a sweat.

So, how do you do this? Don’t worry, here’s a handy guide to show you. Android provides you with several ways to translate text, so you’ll most likely find the best way that suits you. So, let’s get started.

Using Google Translate

So, let’s start off with a pretty straightforward method. Google has had its Google Translate service for a while now, and it’s easily accessible on your Android device. There are a few ways to access it.

Using the app

The official Google Translate app has been on the market for a while. If you don’t have the app on your phone, you can click here to download it. When you install the app, you can easily use it to translate text.

To copy the text, hold your finger down on the text and drag the selection area over all of the text that you want to translate. Tap on the Select option on the pop-up that appears. This will add the text to your clipboard.

Go to the Google Translate app and hold your finger down on the text field. Tap on the Paste button. This will place the text into the field. Then the app will get to work translating it.

On the bottom of the screen, you’ll see two buttons with languages in them. The left option is the text that’s being translated and the right one will be the language you’re translating to. If you know what language you’re copying, tap on the left button and select the language. If you don’t, then tap on the left button and select Detect Language from the top.

After you select the language you want it translated to, you’ll see the translated text appear on the screen.

If you have a newer Pixel phone

Newer Pixel phones will have a faster way to access Google Translate. When you select the text, you’ll see the pop-up. Next to the Copy button, you’ll see the Translate button. When you tap on it (after setting the Google Translate button as the default), you’ll see a window appear on the top of the screen.

This will show your text automatically translated. It’s an extremely fast way to translate your text on your phone.

Using Google Lens

Google Lens is an incredibly powerful tool for all sorts of tasks. One of the tasks is quickly translating text on your phone with no effort. There are a few ways to use this app to translate text.

Just like the Google Translate app, you can download Google Lens from the Google Play Store. You can click here to download it. However, if you have the Google Search widget, chances are that Lens will be implemented into it. On the far right of the widget, you’ll see a little camera icon. When you tap on it, you’ll see the app pop up.

Firstly, take a screenshot of the text that you want to translate. Next, open the Google Lens app. The app will automatically open to the search section. Look at the bottom of the viewfinder at the buttons. Tap on the Translate button. When you do so, the viewfinder will expand, and you’ll see the option to import an image.

Tapping on it will bring up the photo picker UI. Tap on your screenshot and it will expand to fill the screen. When Lens translates, it will superimpose the translated text over the original. From there, you’ll be able to copy the text.

Using the camera viewfinder

If the thing that you’re trying to translate is not on your phone, but out in the real world, you can also use Lens to translate it. Just like before, go to the Translate section in the app. Swipe down on the viewfinder to expand it to fill the screen. From that point, just point the camera at the text that you’re trying to translate.

The app will superimpose the translated text over what you’re trying to translate. It’s a very quick and easy way to translate.

Translating your apps in Android 13

If you’re looking to completely translate an app on your phone, you can do so if you’re on Android 13. One of the features showcased in this version of Android is the ability to translate your text on a per-app basis.

There are a few ways to do this. The quickest way to do this is to go to the app on your home screen. Hold your finger down on the app icon and wait for the app options to pop up. Tap on the App Info button (the “i” in the circle).

On the resulting page, scroll down to the Language section. There, you’ll see the list of all supported languages for that app. When you tap it, the language for that app will change right away.

Going through the settings

There’s another way to get to the app info page. Go to your settings and go to the Apps section. On that page, you’ll see a list of your apps. When you tap on the app that you want, it will take you to the App info screen.
