As an important platform for deepening global cooperation and an important name card to showcase Shanghai's image, this conference brought together 40 international entrepreneurs from 24 cities around the world to talk with Shanghai Municipal government leaders "Cloud" about "promoting green, low-carbon and sustainable urban development".
George Oliver, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson Controls, joined the conference via video link and during the panel discussion, Share Johnson Controls' views on the topic of "Corporate ESG(Environmental, Social and Governance) Practices Driving Green and Low-carbon Transition" with entrepreneurs from multinational companies such as Toshiba, Danone, Swire and Novartis. Enterprise ESG performance has become one of the investment vane in today's business world. To a certain extent, the number and quality of enterprises proactively disclosing ESGs in a region reflect the quality of the region's economic development and the potential of long-term sustainable development. George Oliver said that enterprise ESG is one of the important means for Shanghai to realize urban green transformation. Shanghai has unique advantages in the practice of enterprise ESG, which can draw on hundreds of talents and has the potential to open up a development road with Shanghai characteristics.
In the panel discussion, George Oliver put forward relevant suggestions from three aspects: the driving force of enterprise ESG practice, enterprise ESG ecology, building ESG scale enabling enterprise sustainable development: In order to activate enterprise motivation, it is suggested to accelerate the construction of enterprise ESG value transmission chain, guide financial institutions to improve the judgment of the importance of ESG evaluation to enterprises, develop financial products directly related to urban green transformation, and establish enterprise ESG encouragement mechanism from various aspects. In view of ESG ecology, it is suggested to focus on the establishment of industry standards and framework, do a good job in the reserve of relevant talents, and take the leading enterprises and listed companies in the industry as the starting point to encourage the upstream and downstream of their industrial chain to jointly practice ESG concept. It is suggested to promote green buildings based on the building as the enabling fulcrum of the carrier of economic activities, so as to enable more enterprises to practice ESG on a large scale. Improve the level of building digitization to ensure the accuracy and credibility of building ESG data, and lay a foundation for enterprise ESG achievements of capital.

Buildings are important Spaces in which public life and economic activities take place. At last year's IBLAC conference, Johnson Controls offered insights on how Shanghai can actively expand the space for efficient investment -- introducing multiple actors to contract energy management, promoting high energy efficiency renovation, and proposing that Shanghai's five new towns can be used as a pilot zone for sustainable green building, drawing and demonstrating the blueprint of a zero-carbon city in the future. At present, Shanghai's "five New Cities" strategy is further unlocking the city's economic potential, and actively playing its role as a smart, low-carbon and livable city pilot zone. At the same time, a large number of old buildings digital energy-saving transformation projects, also inject new vitality into the city.
