Recently, Zhanrui cooperated with Tianjin Unicom to complete SUL(upward enhancement) test in 5G commercial network, which is the first test of Zhanrui SUL technology in the global 5G commercial network. The test terminal is based on the Zhanrui Tangura V516 platform. The test includes R16 protocol interworking, SUL access and switching, SUL remote gain, etc., achieving up to 300% uplink rate improvement at the cell edge. The completion of this test means that the terminal side has the commercial capability of SUL, which is conducive to promoting more 5G terminals to support SUL features and R16 protocol, and accelerating the development of 5G industry.
As a new generation of mobile communication technology, 5G is leading the technological revolution on a global scale. As we all know,5G can provide hundreds or even thousands of megabits of downlink network speed, but the uplink is limited by the transmission capacity of the TDD band itself, so the coverage is limited. With the increasing demand for personal mobile live streaming and the popularity of 4K/8K video and VR live streaming apps, the upside is becoming increasingly important. By complementing high frequency and low frequency, SUL technology can cover restricted areas in TDD high frequency uplink, and use low frequency in FDD to enhance uplink coverage and user experience. At present, SUL technology is in full swing in Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen and other places for commercial development, the number of commercial sites have reached thousands, enabling the booming 5G upstream applications.
Tianjin Unicom, as the Unicom Group and the leading local operator in Tianjin, is committed to creating high-quality network. At present, it has achieved continuous coverage in urban areas, and deployed 5G network with a large bandwidth of 200MHz and a peak value of single user exceeding 2Gbps in hot spots, bringing extreme 5G network experience to the majority of users.
As the world's leading chip supplier, Zhanrui is making full efforts in the 5G era. Since the release of its first 5G baseband chip V510 in 2019, it has been in the first echelon of 5G cutting-edge technology innovation. This cooperation test between Tianjin Unicom and Zhangrui is based on Zhangrui 5G baseband chip platform - Zhangrui Tanggula V516, which is the industry's first product platform that supports 5G R16 Ready launched by Zhangrui. The two sides tested R16 protocol interworking, SUL access and switch, remote SUL gain, etc. The test results show that the uplink bandwidth of 3.5G 100MHz is combined with the uplink SUL function of 2.1G 20MHz. Compared with the non-SUL terminal, the uplink coverage restricted area and the uplink edge rate of 3.5G can be improved by up to 300%, and the uplink coverage can be improved by up to 3dB at the same time.
Wang Qihong, Vice general manager of Tianjin Unicom, said: "Tianjin Unicom not only pursues the leading network quality, but also takes active actions in promoting the development of 5G industry. The SUL test cooperated with Zhanrui is the global debut test of Zhanrui SUL chip in 5G commercial network, marking that more and more 5G chip manufacturers begin to support SUL, which will bring quality experience to more 5G users "
Huang Yuning, senior vice president of Zhangrui, said, "Zhangrui is committed to providing customers with competitive 5G solutions, adhering to the innovative leadership of cutting-edge technologies and constantly breaking the boundaries of 5G technology with the cooperation of ecological partners. The successful verification of SUL technology in the current network is the result of close cooperation between Zhanrui and Tianjin Unicom, which proves the great value of SUL technology in improving 5G coverage and speed, and helps the rapid development of 5G upstream industry applications."
