/PRZWT/On November 6th, at the 8th China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as "CIIE"), Brother Group held a unique ESG exchange meeting with the theme of "Green Future, Win-Win Coexistence". Through three chapters: strategic interpretation, achievement display and technological empowerment, it systematically presents its global sustainable development ideas and actual achievements.

Interpretation of Brother Group's ESG Global Strategy

Ms. Yumi Tamaru, the head of the Corporate Communication Department of Brother Industries Co., LTD., made a surprise appearance to kick off this event. She indicated that promoting ESG governance has become a key approach for enterprises to create long-term value. Based on the current situation of the group itself and global trends, Brother has made timely adjustments since 2021 and updated the group vision "At your side 2030", clearly defining "contributing to the development of society and the future of the earth" as a goal that needs to be continuously adhered to. Even earlier, Brother's "Environmental Vision 2050" proposed to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the entire business life cycle by 2025 and to build an action framework in three major areas: reducing carbon dioxide emissions, resource recycling, and biodiversity conservation, promoting the in-depth implementation of ESG strategies in various regional markets.

The fruits of practice demonstrate the effectiveness of ESG governance

Ms. Zhang Yan, the chairperson and president of Brother (China), outlined the "acceleration" of the group's ESG development with a set of data: In 2024, compared with 2021, a cumulative reduction of 150,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions will be achieved. 80% of regional companies and factories have obtained ISO14001 certification. The utilization rate of renewable resources in production and manufacturing has increased from 12% in 2018 to 20.7%. The subsequent presentation of Brother Group's practical achievements in China further confirmed the effective implementation of its global strategy: Many of Brother's branches in China have continuously maintained ISO multi-system certifications, and the Shenzhen factory has even passed the RBA(Responsible Business Alliance) Platinum-level certification, becoming one of the first production bases of the group worldwide to receive this highest-level certification.

In terms of social contribution activities, Brother's Chinese subsidiary, Brother (China), has been carrying out the "Love for Education" and "Anti-Desertification Public Welfare Project in Inner Mongolia" in China for many years. In recent years, the company has further explored the "business empowering public welfare" model, serving social issues such as female assistance and disability support, achieving a two-way transformation of commercial value and social value.

The global QR code migration plan has been launched to build a responsible supply chain

Halfway through the exchange meeting, Mr. Dong Wenzhong, the product marketing Director of Domino China, a sub-brand under Brother specializing in laser marking and identification, delivered an interpretation that combined professional depth and industry foresight to the guests on site, taking the "Global QR Code Migration" plan as a case study.

With the upgrading of regulations and the development of the digital economy, consumers, enterprises and regulatory agencies have put forward higher requirements for the transparency of product manufacturing. As a professional brand in the marking and coding industry, Domino, with its strong technical strength, can efficiently process serialized data and precisely meet the demands of high-quality and fast-paced QR code printing. Its advanced visual inspection system and all-round solutions can not only strictly check the accuracy of coding, but also achieve data sharing among the upstream and downstream of the supply chain, providing strong support for building a complete and responsible supply chain system in the domestic market.

A special ESG concept exhibition area has been set up, and cutting-edge green technological achievements have attracted attention

At this year's China International Import Expo, Brother's booth has specially set up an ESG concept exhibition area. Besides showcasing many green technologies that have been maturely applied in its products, it also brought the plastic-reducing cushioning packaging materials that just won the "World Star" Packaging Design Award this year to the site. This cushioning material, while achieving the same machine protection effect, uses pulp materials that are easier to handle and more environmentally friendly to replace common foam plastic boxes, thereby reducing the impact on the ecosystem. Currently, some of Brother's products on sale in China have been replaced with this packaging, allowing Chinese consumers to experience green packaging standards that are in line with international standards.

At this ESG exchange meeting, Brother successfully demonstrated its strong execution ability in implementing ESG governance concepts to China and even the world through the platform of the China International Import Expo. Moreover, it showcased the response models of multinational enterprises under China's ESG governance system through intuitive data and cases. In the future, Brother will continue to work hand in hand with all stakeholder partners to jointly draw a blueprint for green development and contribute to building a modern society where humans and nature coexist in harmony.
