/PRZWT/Shanghai, April 16, 2024 - In seven days' time, the 2024 FORMULA 1 ® Lenovo China Grand Prix will officially start at the Shanghai International Circuit.

F1 China celebrates its 20th anniversary since it was first held in Shanghai in 2004. This year, the Formula 1 Lenovo China Grand Prix will introduce sprints for the first time. In addition to regular free practice, spectators can enjoy intense matchups every day during the three-day schedule from April 19 to 21.

F1 is the most prestigious racing race in the world and the most popular annual racing series. Lenovo and F1 have been cooperating since the 2022 season. As one of the official technology partners of F1, Lenovo will help F1 with its full-stack intelligent products, solutions and services. This 40-week and 24-station season will escort the efficient operation of F1 events throughout the year, and bring a feast of speed and passion to super 700 million fans around the world.

Lenovo Group's outstanding portfolio of smart infrastructure, laptops, desktops, monitors, tablets, and Motorola smartphones will provide core support and assistance to F1 operations in this F1 Lenovo China Grand Prix.

In recent years, around the intelligent transformation strategy, Lenovo Group has built a solid foundation under the AI wave with Puhui computing power, and at the same time, with computing power from pocket to cloud and panoramic AI layout, it has comprehensively led the transformation of hybrid artificial intelligence. F1 is also considering using Lenovo Group AI technology.

While technology is powering F1 events, a group of 16-year-old high school students are also preparing for their F1 with the help of Lenovo AI and computing power technology.

In September last year, the Shanghai West Middle School Spykar team, supported by Lenovo Group, competed with 68 teams from 26 countries in the global finals of F1 in schools in Singapore. In the end, it won the 16th place in the world in total, which refreshed the best result of the Chinese team since participating in the event and the highest ranking of the seven Chinese teams participating in this competition.

As one of the most significant STEM challenges in the world, F1 in schools was born out of the well-known Formula 1 world championship (Formula1). It is an interdisciplinary comprehensive technology innovation challenge that integrates science, technology, engineering, mathematics, design and marketing management. To build a faster racing car, students need to do 3D modeling, numerical control machine cutting, thousands of wind tunnel tests, and massive data analytics, and finally all the data of the vehicle is accurate to three decimal places, because everything wins and loses in "microseconds".

And behind such precision machining, strong computing power is required. Lenovo Group uses computing power and AI technology to help the Shanghai West Middle School Spykar team. Students used the computing power equipment provided by Lenovo to continuously optimize their racing car design, and finally achieved a historic breakthrough.

In addition to that, in 2024, Lenovo Shanghai Research Institute also carried out courses including AR and MR technologies for the Shanghai Shixi Middle School Spykar team, assisting the team in enhancing its scientific and technological capabilities from multiple angles.

Wang Jihua, a science and technology teacher and team instructor at Shixi Middle School, said that the team's performance has improved significantly in the past year, from ranking among the top 16 in the world in the international competition in 2023 to the current use of AI, AR, and MR technologies, which cannot be separated from the technical assistance of Lenovo Group.

The national trials for F1 in schools in 2024 are about to start in May. Today, the teenagers of the Spykar team are using Lenovo AI PCs, intense design and continuous tuning of their cars. They will once again sprint to the global finals to make an impact.

Forty years ago, at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, a 13-year-old boy named Li Jin showed off a computer program he had written himself. The slogan "Computer popularization should start from a baby" was born here and changed the trajectory of countless people. That year, Lenovo was also quietly established in a communication room of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Forty years later, at Shixi Middle School in Shanghai, a kilometer away from the Shanghai Exhibition Center, a group of 16-year-old children are using Chinese-made computers to design their own F1 cars and program F1 speeds.

In the past 40 years, Lenovo Group has never stopped from adhering to the concept of "one computer per family" to promote the popularization of home computers, to the reality of daily AI empowered by teenagers today.

On April 18, the Lenovo Tech World (2024 Lenovo Tech World) will be grandly opened in Shanghai the day before the start of the 2024 FORMULA 1 ® Lenovo China Grand Prix. At that time, Lenovo Group's new vision, innovative technologies and implementation achievements in the field of artificial intelligence will be showcased, and the birth of a "new species of AI" will be announced. We also look forward to witnessing this wonderful moment together.
