Guangzhou, August 19, 2022 -- The annual ACM SIGGRAPH, the world's top computer graphics conference, ended successfully in Vancouver last week. The exhibition has attracted numerous computer graphics and image enthusiasts, and the award-winning works and emerging technologies announced in the event represent to a large extent the development level and future development trend of contemporary computer graphics and images, as well as the benchmark leading the development of AR/VR(augmented reality/virtual reality) industry.

Wang Yuting, the founder of BroadAR, created a VR film with multi-sensory experience, "Experiencing a Day in the Life of a Patient with Olfactory Disorders", which was selected and published by ACM Society after various screening, and obtained the opportunity to be displayed on SIGGRAPH. The work attracted a large audience at the Vancouver Convention Centre, with people lining up in front of the booth. Uc Berkeley alumna Yuting Wang introduced smell into VR films, challenging audiences' perception of smell. She designed an odor-emitting device that can be connected to VR devices. By controlling the device, she lets the viewer smell odors that do not match the scene, thus simulating the world from the perspective of someone with a sense of smell disorder. "A smell disorder is an invisible disease, but it often makes life extremely inconvenient and potentially dangerous for patients. People who don't have this disease can't feel the same pain, "she explained." Since VR allows the audience to immerse themselves in the experience from the first perspective, it is undoubtedly the best medium for the audience to experience the diminished smell, the mismatched smell, or even the smell loss in the fire A different kind of encounter.

Wang Yuting integrates design and engineering perfectly together, and constantly innovates in the field of science and technology. She is a rare inter-disciplinary talent. The Shanghai native is the first MIT student to win the AR/VR Hackathon four years in a row. In the past few years, she has created one award-winning work after another, covering the medical, education, entertainment, film, art and other aspects of AR/VR software innovation. In just one year, she and her studio BroadAR were shortlisted in many top AR/VR international competitions, such as AWE's Auggie Award,VR Awards and SXSW. She has also won a number of prestigious design awards, such as Red Dot Award, IDEA,Dezeen Award, European Product Design Award, winner of San Francisco Design Week, etc.

Meta Open Arts I also funded the augmented reality art exhibition held by her at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Francisco. Thirty virtual dogs with different personalities were brought into the art exhibition hall by AR technology, and the audience could interact and play with the virtual dogs. Through the combination of virtual and real art expression, the moral of this exhibition aims to arouse people's awareness of the loss of stray dogs caused by excessive urban development All the concerns of this issue. In 2019, while competing at MIT, she developed software that allows users wearing Magic Leap AR glasses to freehand grab images and text from a computer or phone into three-dimensional AR space, all in real time.

This AR application software is very innovative today after three years. Working in the field of AR/VR for seven years, this excellent designer has made remarkable achievements on the road of metaverse innovation, and also let us see how design thinking is applied to the development of metaverse. I hope to see more and more outstanding designers in the future, driving the progress and innovation of the metauniverse industry.
