King Esports has supported HKU SPACE in launching Hong Kong's first government-approved diploma course in esports

(May 28, 2018) In recent years, the rapid development of the e-sports industry, the industry is thirsty for talent, as the main promoter of the local e-sports industry, Emperor E-sports has realized that if the e-sports industry wants to continue to develop, it is the first task to solve the industry's urgent need for talent. King's Esports, E-Sports Association Hong Kong (ESAHK) and Cyber Games Arena (CGA) jointly support the University of Hong Kong's School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE), To launch the first government-approved Diploma in esports Science course and sign a memorandum of Understanding together at a press conference held at HKU SPACE Admiralty Teaching Centre to provide systematic training to students by combining the strengths and resources of all parties, laying the foundation for the long-term development of esports industry. Dr Michael Chung, Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, Professor Lee Suen, Dean of HKU SPACE, James Cheung, Business Director of King's esports, Mr Yeung Chun Shing, Chairman of ESAHK, and Mr Chow Kai Hong, founder of CGA, attended the press conference to witness another milestone in Hong Kong's esports industry.

"We are confident that in the near future, we will collaborate with more organizations to promote systematic and quality esports education and foster more young people to join this emerging industry."

Speaking at the conference, James Zhang, Business Director of King's esports, said: "With the development of the esports industry, the demand for talent has become greater than the supply, which limits the long-term development of the entire industry. Seeing that many young people see esports as the ideal career in life, King Esports supports HKU SPACE to offer diploma courses to provide professional training for these young people who love esports. On the one hand, it can help them turn what they love into a livelihood tool, and on the other hand, it can help the industry find talents for future development."

King Esports has been hoping to promote the healthy development of local esports ecology by holding regular esports leagues, managing esports teams and setting up professional esports colleges and other multi-faceted solutions. Since its establishment, King Esports has gradually achieved its goals, including successfully holding the King Esports Elite Cup at the end of 2017, and has been actively looking for and recruiting esports talents. It has two men's professional esports teams, G-Rex LOL and G-Rex PUB-G, to participate in various large-scale esports competitions. This support to HKU SPACE to launch the diploma course in esports is not only of great significance to King Esports, but also plays a positive impact on the young people who are interested in esports and the development of the whole industry.

The Diploma is Level 3 of the QF. King's esports, E-Sports Association Hong Kong (ESAHK) and Cyber Games Arena (CGA) leverage their extensive experience in the operation and development of the esports industry. We specially designed the content and provided professional advice for the course, which covers 6 major areas of esports industry, including:

1. Business Ecosystem: Deconstructing the ecological structure of different characters in esports

2. History and culture of e-sports: Explain the development process from video game consoles to large-scale video games, and then to smart phones, digital platforms, and e-sports competitions

3. Streaming technology and setting: explain traditional computer network knowledge and streaming technology, including principles of live broadcast equipment, assembly machines, stage lighting, sound control, effects, games and portrait screen selection, etc

4. Introduction to program planning and management: Explain program planning process, financial classification and budget, safety guidelines and crisis management, bidding strategy, program marketing and sponsorship

5. Theory, Safety and Law: Discuss sportsmanship, fair play, etiquette, video game disorders, contracts and intellectual property law

6. Communication skills: Teach the skills of e-sports reporting, broadcasting, hosting, and conducting interviews

In addition to meeting attendance requirements and completing all assignments, students must complete a minimum of 45 hours of internship work in a related industry such as esports or digital media and write a report with qualified results before graduation. Upon completion of the course, the trainees will be able to work in various positions in the esports industry, such as event planning, event sales, lighting, backstage sound and video controllers, commentators and anchors.
