Beijing, June 8 -- China has 212 million people over the age of 60, and its population is aging rapidly and for a long time. To improve the elderly care service industry so that more vulnerable elderly people can enjoy their old age in peace, we need not only government support, but also the active participation of civilian volunteers.

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee recently held its 32nd collective study session on the situation and countermeasures of China's aging population. Efforts should be made to meet the growing material and cultural needs of the elderly.

According to Li Zhong, spokesman for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, nearly 40 million of the 212 million elderly are disabled or semi-disabled. According to the prediction of relevant departments, the elderly population will reach 400 million by 2035, and the number of disabled or semi-disabled elderly people will further increase.

Among the elderly, there are a certain proportion of vulnerable elderly with poor economic ability and serious diseases. Many elderly people living alone and in poor families are helpless once they get incurable diseases. On the one hand, their families can't afford huge financial pressures, on the other hand, there are few options for help.

Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po and Ta Kung Pao reported recently that the care for the vulnerable elderly started late. Compared with short-term charity, free voluntary care for the elderly without financial means is a time-consuming and costly task, which is also an area that few celebrities and companies have stepped into or insisted on. But more and more volunteers are paying attention to this field. In Hebei, Hubei and other places, Yang Shoucheng, chairman of the Hong Kong Emperor Group, has set up several care centers for the elderly. The centers not only take care of the elderly's daily life, but also invest a lot of money to support the purchase of hardware facilities and medical services, and recruit volunteers to provide psychological counseling and comfort for the elderly. It is understood that the elderly living in these centers are mostly lonely elderly.

At present, more and more young people are attracted to the voluntary service of good death care. Dragon Boat Festival is approaching, the staff of the care center and enthusiastic volunteers prepared rice dumplings for the old people early, and take care of the health status and preferences of each old man, arranged to distribute different flavors of rice dumplings to the old man.

In the face of some seriously ill elderly people, medical treatment may not be able to solve the problem completely. What they need more is to comfort them with patience and guide them to enjoy their limited life. It is hoped that more non-governmental forces can set up private pension institutions. More charities and friendly people can persevere, give and take, and help vulnerable elderly people to live happily ever after.
