/Chaowintong/Shenzhen, December 25, 2024 - On December 19, 2024, Samsung Electronics announced that it will unveil a new refrigerator with AI hybrid refrigeration technology at the 2025 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025), which is scheduled to be available globally in 2025. The new refrigerator introduces AI hybrid refrigeration technology, which combines artificial intelligence with innovative refrigeration methods to meet the diverse needs of modern homes.

"Given the 24-hour uninterrupted operation of refrigerators, we place a high priority on developing a cooling system that can actually improve the energy efficiency of our users," said Jeong Seung Moon, executive vice-president of Samsung Electronics. "With the global release of AI hybrid cooling technology, Samsung has shown a strong commitment to technological innovation in the field of household appliances. We will continue to introduce home appliances that incorporate innovative technologies to provide more convenience to consumers' daily lives."

Adaptive Hybrid Refrigeration Optimizes Energy Efficiency

The AI hybrid refrigeration technology works by combining a high-efficiency compressor with a Peltier module, a semiconductor device that uses the temperature changes generated by the flow of electricity to cool the refrigerator. Introduced, the refrigerator uses both power sources only when it needs to cool the interior efficiently, just like a hybrid car.

For example, when large-scale cooling needs are detected or anticipated (when a user purchases a large number of items at once, or stores hot food, or is in a hot summer), the refrigerator will start the Peltier module and compressor at the same time. Under normal use, it relies solely on the compressor to ensure optimum efficiency. During this process, AI algorithms detect the current state of the refrigerator and predict temperature changes inside the refrigerator in order to adjust the cooling mode.

Thanks to the increase in the radius of the rotating parts, the highly efficient AI inverter compressor [2] also helps to improve energy efficiency. Compared to Samsung's traditional F3 compressor [3], its inertia is increased by 4.1 times, enabling longer running times while consuming less energy [4]. Using AI algorithms, the compressor can also dynamically optimize its speed [5].

After continued efforts, Samsung plans to introduce a refrigerator model to the market in 2025 that can be rated as the most energy-efficient by "Energy Star" [6].

Precise temperature control extends the shelf life

AI Hybrid Refrigeration technology enhances the freshness of perishable foods by mixing precision refrigeration. This feature reduces temperature fluctuations inside the refrigerator when activated, even during the device's automatic defrosting cycle. By leveraging the waste heat generated by the Peltier module during the defrosting process, it effectively reduces the risk of excessive temperature fluctuations affecting food quality, allowing food ingredients to maintain their freshness for longer. Tests have shown that when the mix precision refrigeration function is turned on [7], the shelf life of fresh foods such as pork and salmon can be extended to 1.4 times and 1.2 times, respectively [8].

More storage space and daily conveniences

The AI-powered refrigerator redefines space efficiency with its impressive 900L capacity [9], providing superior practicality while maintaining the same external dimensions. By replacing traditional heating elements with Peltier modules, the refrigerator makes better use of internal space, increasing internal capacity by 25L. This optimization increases shelf depth by 60mm [10], expands loadable area by 13.8% [11], and can hold up to 240 cans of beverages [12], providing an additional 24 cans of storage space compared to traditional models.

A major breakthrough in household refrigeration technology

The refrigerator with AI hybrid refrigeration technology underscores Samsung's commitment to combining smart technology, energy efficiency and user-friendly design. This innovative appliance, which will debut at CES 2025, promises to redefine modern home life and usher in a new era of AI-empowered home solutions.

Note:

1. The Peltier module works under any of the following conditions:

When the temperature in the refrigerator rises above the normal range.

When the AI analyzes the user's refrigerator usage patterns, predicts the temperature over time, and detects conditions such as storing a large number of items or performing cleaning.

2. The AI inverter compressor needs to connect to Wi-Fi, log in to your Samsung account, and enable AI power saving mode through the SmartThings app available on Android and iOS devices.

3. Compared to traditional Samsung F3 compressors, the results are based on dogfooding.

4. Models and energy savings rates applicable to AI-based algorithms vary by model and region.

5. AI Power Saving Mode must be enabled in the SmartThings app available on Android and iOS devices, along with Wi-Fi connection and login to a Samsung account.

6. Model code: RM80F23VM ***

7. It may increase energy consumption.

8. According to a test conducted by the Center for Food Analysis and Research at the Women's University of Water Resources, the effects may vary depending on the operating conditions of the refrigerator and the type, condition, size, and storage method of the food.

9. Capacity and other values will vary according to the model code. The following values are based on the RM70F91 model.

10. Deeper shelves are only suitable for the upper and middle shelves of the refrigerator.

11. Compare with the Samsung refrigerator RF85C90N1AP.

12. Based on a 355 ml canned beverage with a size of 66 x 122 mm (diameter x height)....
