/ Morning News/August 02, 2022 Guangzhou -- The G20 Empowerment Working Group 2022 held its third meeting of the year on July 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia, under the theme "Safer Work Environments for Women". Share best practices from companies and governments to help women's careers in the wake of the pandemic.
Wang Shutong, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Dunhuang Net Group, as the first invited Chinese company representative, joined with Rinawati Prihatiningsih, co-head of G20 EMPOWER Indonesia, Indra Gunawan, Acting Deputy Minister of Civil Society Engagement, Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Indonesia; Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Indonesia; Mira Tayyib, Head of the Digital Economy Working Group and Minister of Communications and Information, Indonesia; President of SAP Japan, joined by Michiko Achilles, APEC Japan Business representative, and many other prominent guests, held a discussion on lowering barriers to digital entrepreneurship, promoting digital capacity building and experience sharing, and empowering women entrepreneurs.Lower the threshold of participation in digital economy and empower women entrepreneurship around the world
Wang Shutong believes that the rise of digital economy and social e-commerce has brought opportunities for female entrepreneurs. But at the same time, globally, men have 21% more access to digital tools than women, who face a lack of digital tools. So lowering barriers to participation in the digital economy could encourage more women to start their own businesses.
Take MyyShop, a decentralized one-stop social e-commerce SaaS platform launched by Dunhuang Network Group in 2020, as an example. MyyShop can provide website building, product selection, supply, marketing and generation services based on social media, and provide a way to monetize private traffic for various content creators, Internet celebrities, Kols and KoCs. Meria, an American Zumba instructor, lost her original source of income during the pandemic and tried to start a successful business through MyyShop. She recommends Zumba training clothes to her fans on her Facebook page, and MyyShop is responsible for the fulfillment of orders once they are placed. Meria doesn't have to worry about trade policies, e-commerce operations and logistics, and can make money from her private traffic. "Social media has a huge female audience globally. Social platform based e-commerce tools and services like MyyShop can greatly lower the barriers to participation in the digital economy and enable more people, especially women entrepreneurs, to participate more equally in the digital economy." Wang Shutong said.Upgrade digital skills and promote experience sharing
Wang also stressed the importance of building professional communities for women. An APEC survey published last year found that as many as 63 per cent of 500 female executives of small and medium-sized enterprises from 21 member economies felt they "lacked professional digital skills". "The creation of a professional community gives women access to resources, information, funding and digital skills through in-depth communication." Wang Shutong pointed out.
Based on this idea, Dunhuang Network Group initiated the APEC Women Connect project in 2016 to help women realize their entrepreneurial dreams through inspirational sharing, practical learning and effective motivation. Since its inception six years ago, APEC Women Connect has attracted more than 100,000 women from all over the world and received support and recognition from the United Nations, APEC and G20. Wang Shutong shared the story of Miriam Febechukwu, a female entrepreneur in Nigeria. Miriam participated in the 2nd APEC Women Connect "She Power" Global Digital Trade Entrepreneurship Competition last year and won the first place with her excellent entrepreneurial practice. Miriam quit her job at the hospital after experiencing workplace sexism. She took a training course at MyyShop and jumped at the chance to enter the cross-border e-commerce sector. Within six months of starting her business, she was making nearly $50,000 in monthly sales. "With easy-to-use digital tools and adequate training, I believe more women can become Miriam." "Wang Shutong concluded.Strengthen government-enterprise exchanges to expand international influence
< P > When it comes to how the public sector should support women's empowerment, Wang Shutong believes that governments should listen more to the voice of the private sector such as enterprises. In July this year, Wang Shutong was invited to attend the forum of economic situation experts and entrepreneurs held by The State Council of China. As a representative of the foreign trade field, he talked about the challenges and opportunities of the development of cross-border e-commerce industry under the current situation, and made suggestions for the economic work of the government. Such communication between the public and private sectors will help promote the development of the industry, and objectively create opportunities for more small, medium and micro enterprises led by women. From the policy level, women will be encouraged to start their own businesses through e-commerce.
< /p>< /p> Wang also believes that for the international community, multilateral cooperation is the key to accelerate knowledge sharing and technical support. The international community and various organizations should strengthen contacts, coordinate efforts and jointly maximize resources. More importantly, it is important to make full use of local resources, enhance the impact of international projects in different regional markets, maintain the inclusiveness and sustainability of multilateral cooperation, and let more people see the efforts of governments, businesses and organizations to support women's participation in economic development. "Over the past few years, we have worked closely with the G20, the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and the BRICS Women in Business Alliance (WBA) in this regard to integrate women's empowerment programmes where possible to increase our voice." Wang Shutong said.
