With the arrival of the first anniversary of 5G commercial use, a series of urban public art works themed "5G has been covered here" have appeared in landmark areas such as Xintiandi and East Bank Binjiang as well as some communities and streets in Shanghai, quickly attracting the attention of citizens and sustained media coverage. These works have not only become a new symbol of 5G coverage in key areas of Shanghai, but also brought a new landscape for the city's "Beautiful Streets" campaign.
In Huaihai Road, the world's smallest telecom business hall officially opened, a brick size of the business hall is telecom's thinking and exploration of the relationship between 5G and the city; In Xintiandi, the sculpture art of "Fulu Shou" fountain has a new interpretation -- "here Fulu Shou has been covered, here 5G has been covered"; On the east bank of the river, the black ship bollard along the river in the past has been replaced with a new painting, and the 5G version of the zodiac art works are arranged in order to interact with the public... These urban arts throughout Shanghai, combined with local cultural attributes, not only express the information of 5G coverage to the public in an interesting way, but also announce that Shanghai has been transformed from a "gigabit city" to a new "5G city".
Shanghai's innovation model
Following 2G and 3G, China has become a leader in the standards, technologies and applications of the new generation of mobile communication in the 5G era, which means that China's 5G builders have to cross a "river" that has never been crossed before. In particular, Shanghai, as a super-large city, faces more complex and personalized challenges in 5G construction. Innovation is essential in how to build a high-quality network to meet users' demands for 5G from "usable" to "easy to use".
Mode 1:10 times wide Carrier-network "lanes"
Bearer network is the channel between the core network and the wireless access side. In order to meet Shanghai's demand for super-large bandwidth as a super-large city, Shanghai Telecom did not adopt the 10G link commonly chosen by the industry, but built a wider "lane" through the new 100G link, so that the 5G bearer network can run faster and have stronger capacity.
Mode 2: Telephone booth and Longmen frame are 5G base stations
In terms of the construction of wireless base stations, Shanghai, which is full of skyscrapers, also encounters many difficulties. Especially in the downtown area or on elevated roads, it is not easy to choose the right station site for the construction of 5G base stations. Faced with the difficulties, Shanghai Telecom actively explored not only the street phone booths into 5G base stations, but also the 5G base stations "climb" on the viaduct and highway gantry, effectively make up for the weak coverage of 5G outdoor macro stations, and achieve seamless coverage of 5G signals in hot spots, which is the first of its kind in China.
At a 5G public phone booth near the Shanghai Grand Theater, a mobile phone speed measurement showed that the speed of the 5G network reached 100Mbps/900Mpbs. It is understood that there are more than 100 such 5G phone booths in Shanghai. According to the actual situation of 5G coverage, Shanghai Telecom has reformed and upgraded the phone booths in hot spots, and installed 5G small micro base stations on the top of the booths.
Now,5G micro base stations are "climbing" on the high-speed gantry frame. Shanghai Telecom has successfully installed and piloted 5G small and micro base stations on the gantry of G1503 expressway in the harbor area. Field tests show that the network speed is around 600Mbps, and it is gradually rolling out in the elevated section in the urban area.
Mode 3: Build the world's "5G Maximum"
In the magic city of Shanghai, "Hello 5G" has already hit the "Shanghai most" : it has the highest 5G in China. The 632-meter Shanghai Tower is the first super high-rise building in China to realize 5G deployment. The 800,000-square-meter National Convention and Exhibition Center, known as "Four-leaf Clover", is about to usher in the third CIIE. Customers from all over the world will feel the charm of 5G in China. It has the fastest 5G Internet on Earth, 450km/h maglev, and the "fastest Internet ride on land"...
In addition, Shanghai is also making breakthroughs in 5G network construction under special scenarios such as subway and airport. According to the plan, this year, Shanghai will complete 5G coverage of major passenger public areas at Pudong and Hongqiao airports, as well as Shanghai's 297 underground station halls and platforms, and other transportation hubs.
