/PRZWT/November 20, 2025, Chinese mainland. One hundred years ago, the first mass-produced 35mm camera - the Leica I camera - broke through the tradition and brought about a thorough transformation to photography. Leica black-and-white cameras inherit this pioneering spirit, resolutely discarding color, striving for excellence, and focusing on pure black-and-white photography. Whether in the past or at present, these cameras have always represented an attitude - breaking the routine and exploring a brand-new world of images. With the launch of the Leica Q3 Monochrom, this compact mirrorless full-frame camera that focuses on light and shadow composition has opened a new chapter.
As the second-generation black-and-white camera of the Q system, the Leica Q3 Monochrom is equipped with a dedicated black-and-white sensor, focusing on the essence of photography and only capturing brightness information. Its 60-megapixel black-and-white sensor, equipped with triple resolution technology, offers outstanding clarity, impressive dynamic range and excellent tonal depth - without the need for color filters, the detail performance is uncompromised. The ISO range is from 100 to 200,000. It supports taking photos at 60 million, 36 million or 18 million pixel resolutions and can also record videos up to 8K. Paired with the Leica Summilux 28 f/1.7 ASPH. Wide-angle prime lens with a large aperture, it can still capture low-noise, detailed and high-quality images even in low-light conditions.
In terms of design, the Leica Q3 Monochrom not only continues the style of the modern Q system but also maintains a pure black and white aesthetic. This camera is made of high-quality materials and exquisitely crafted in Germany. It is not only aesthetically pleasing and practical but also has an excellent hand feel. The all-metal body and the lens hood are both painted black. The "Monochrom" and other engravings on the camera top cover are in a low-key black or gray color, and the leather cover has a delicate and elegant luster. In addition, the red Leica logo on the front of the camera is hidden, highlighting its minimalist design style.
The high-resolution 5.76-megapixel OLED viewfinder, fast and precise hybrid autofocus system, and foldable touchscreen all inherit the powerful functions of the Leica Q3. The Q3 Monochrom is also equipped with a convenient macro mode switching function, with a minimum focusing distance of 17 cm. It supports both automatic and manual operations, providing a high degree of freedom for the creation of black-and-white photos and videos. This camera is sturdy and durable, featuring IP52 dust and splash resistance.
With a 28 to 90mm digital zoom and a wealth of video functions, the Leica Q3 Monochrom can capture black-and-white images with outstanding quality, providing diverse options for daily creation. It can be reliably and conveniently connected to the Leica FOTOS application via WiFi, Bluetooth, USB-C and HDMI interfaces, enabling the safe and high-speed integration of captured content into mobile workflows.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom also offers a well-designed and user-friendly interface that clearly distinguishes between photo and video functions. Both adopt independent color schemes and are combined with carefully designed ICONS and menu navigation, making the operation more intuitive and convenient. Leica plans to apply the new operation concept of Q system cameras to the Leica Q3 and Leica Q3 43 through a firmware update by the end of the year.
As the pioneering work of the Q system, the Leica Q3 Monochrom is equipped with pioneering content credential technology. This is the first Q system camera to adopt this technology. It responds to the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) by adding digital signatures to images to verify the source of the images and subsequent modifications in a tamper-proof manner.
The rich range of optional accessories further expands the creative space, allowing the Leica Q3 Monochrom to showcase its unique style. The new black-and-white camera is compatible with all kinds of accessories of Leica Q3 series. In addition to the Q3 Monochrom, Leica has also simultaneously launched a wireless charging handle with the same leather covering as the camera, a red filter, and multiple straps.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom will be officially available for sale at Leica boutiques, the Leica online store and authorized dealers worldwide starting from November 20, 2025. The suggested retail price is RMB 56,300 (including tax).
