/PRZWT/From November 5th to 10th, the 8th China International Import Expo was grandly held as scheduled at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Sumitomo Electric Group made its fifth appearance at the expo, presenting innovative solutions for achieving high-quality development.
This year marks the final year of Sumitomo Electric Group's medium-term business plan 2025. At this year's China International Import Expo, Sumitomo Electric Group, based on the slogan of "Exploring the Future Green Society through Connecting and Supporting technologies" in its plan, responded to the demands of the Chinese market with integrated solutions through three key application scenarios: "Environment and Energy", "Mobility", and "Data Centers and Smart Life", contributing to promoting high-quality development and green transformation.
One of the highlights of this exhibition - the optical interconnection cabling solution for data centers - can strongly support major engineering projects represented by "East Data West Computing". With the rapid popularization of artificial intelligence services, the construction pace of hyperscale data centers continues to accelerate. Since the 1970s, Sumitomo Electric Corporation has been deeply engaged in the field of optical communication, accumulating a solid technical foundation. It has now developed into a comprehensive solution provider covering active devices, optical fibers and cables, optical connectors, and optical fiber splicers.
In terms of active devices, the group independently develops compound semiconductor materials such as indium phosphide (InP) and gallium arsenide (GaAs), and based on these, produces active devices for high-speed and large-capacity communication in data centers. In terms of passive products, Sumitomo Electric offers a wide range of products including high-density optical cables, optical connectors and fiber optic splicers, which help achieve low-loss and highly reliable optical communication transmission between buildings.
The optical interconnection cabling solutions for data centers on display this time cover key products such as high-density ribbon optical cables, multi-core optical fiber connectors, high-density cabling panels and optical fiber splicers. Particularly eye-catching is the TYPE-72M16+ optical fiber splicer, which can achieve low-loss splicing of 16 optical fibers at one time, significantly enhancing the on-site construction efficiency of data centers. Relying on its outstanding product and technological strength, Sumitomo Electric will continue to provide solid support for national strategic projects such as "East Data West Computing".
Optical interconnection cabling solutions for data centers
Another highlight is the leading filtration and separation technology solutions in the water treatment field. Sumitomo Electric Group has brought the ViLEP® vibrating membrane pollution control technology with POREFLON® membrane modules at its core. This technology can provide significant support for energy conservation and emission reduction as well as the construction of a green and low-carbon society.
Since 1962, Sumitomo Electric Group has been committed to the research and development of PTFE membrane products and their application in separation processes. Over the past decade or so since entering the field of environmental protection and sewage treatment, POREFLON® membrane products have been widely applied in the treatment of landfill leachate, municipal sewage, as well as industrial wastewater from electroplating, pharmaceuticals, printing and dyeing, steel, coal chemical and other industries. Seventy percent of Sumitomo Electric's water treatment membrane products are sold in the Chinese market and are operating stably in over 2,000 locations.
This product features a long service life and stable operation. Compared with traditional membrane products, it can significantly reduce energy consumption by up to 85%. Looking to the future, Sumitomo Electric will continue to be committed to improving water environment, utilizing water resources and ensuring water safety, providing more economical, worry-free and efficient solutions, and injecting technological strength into the environmental protection cause in China and even the world.
ViLEP® vibration membrane pollution control technology with POREFLON® membrane modules as the core
As a large-scale comprehensive manufacturer of automotive wiring harnesses, Sumitomo Electric Group's new energy vehicle in-vehicle solutions centered on automotive wiring harnesses have been a key product on display at the China International Import Expo for several consecutive sessions. This solution integrates cutting-edge technologies that support electrification and high-speed communication, and has currently been adopted by multiple vehicle manufacturers, including Japanese brands.
Sumitomo Electric's automotive products are mostly used in parts of the car interior that are not easily visible directly. At this exhibition, the group vividly presented a number of key products through its newly designed interactive system, such as: special flat Angle wires for new energy vehicle drive motors, wiring harnesses and connectors spread throughout the vehicle body, on-board wires, cutting tools for processing core automotive components, and powdering magnetic cores for axial motors, etc.
Relying on its comprehensive technical strength in energy, information and communication and other fields, Sumitomo Electric is actively promoting the evolution of in-vehicle products towards electrification and high-speed communication to cope with the changes in the future mobility field. In the future, the group will also actively promote cooperation with domestic Chinese automakers.
