On October 10, Dyson's first floor washing machine product WashG1 was officially launched in China. Dyson, which has always been known for "subversive innovation", once again brought a "technology surprise" innovation change when launching a new category of floor washing machine.

"The WashG1 is the result of Dyson engineers' efforts to solve problems that others tend to overlook, and we are constantly challenging ourselves to create better technology."

User insight and lean engineering

The birth of the floor washing machine stems from the wet cleaning habit of Chinese consumers. Driven by market demand and technological innovation, this industry has become a new engine of growth for the clean electrical circuit. According to the statistics of Aowei Cloud network, the retail sales of the floor washing machine industry in 2019 were less than 100 million yuan, and the retail sales of the industry reached 9.97 billion yuan in 2022.

With the attraction of the hot market, the players of the washing machine track are also increasing, and more than 200 brands have appeared in the market in the past three years. However, while the track is crowded, the consumer experience is not ideal. At the same time, the mixed solid waste is also easy to get stuck in the corner of the machine, which not only makes maintenance and cleaning time-consuming and laborious, but also makes the machine itself easy to become a place of filth over time.

In this context, the Dyson WashG1 floor washer came into being.

In order to maintain the same strong cleaning capability without suction, WashG1 is designed with twin rollers rotating opposite each other. The surface of the roller is covered with 64,800 high-density microfibers per square centimeter. Through its high density brush and high water absorption, the liquid stains are fully adsorbed, and solid dirt, debris and hair are also encrusted and sucked in.

At the same time, the WashG1 also has a precisely controlled water release system, while the machine works, pulse water injection pump continuously delivers water to 26 water outlets distributed along the drum, evenly wetting both drums. Users can also switch a variety of water release modes in real time, according to the dirt type, floor material and personal preferences in the low, medium and high 3 cleaning modes, flexibly adjust the water output and humidity, to solve the problem of water marks.

In response to the shortcomings of traditional floor washers in keeping the body clean, the WashG1 uses Dyson's unique triple solid-liquid separation technology, through two built-in nylon brush strips attached to the drum, to complete the separation of hair and solid liquid waste. As the drum rolls in wet and dry garbage, the nylon brush strips continuously brush the solid waste on the drum, including hair, and toss it into the debris box. The scraping plate squeezes the drum, and the dirty water is squeezed out and collected into the sewage tank under the pressure difference through the net cover with the aperture size of 500 microns in the debris box. Therefore, after the end of the washing, the user only needs to remove the debris box and the sewage box, dump the solid waste and sewage respectively, and achieve clean solid-liquid waste separation and treatment without touching.

To further facilitate the user's daily maintenance, the Dyson WashG1 also uses the sewage tank "no sanitary dead corner" design, which effectively reduces the accumulation of dirt inside the machine. Not only that, the sewage tank and clean water tank are designed with a wide mouth, which is convenient for users to dump sewage and clean the water tank.

It is worth mentioning that the WashG1 clean water tank and sewage tank have a large capacity of 1L and 800ml, respectively, with a battery life of up to 35min, can cover 290 square meters of daily floor cleaning. In addition, the WashG1 can also achieve edge-cleaning, flexible steering, and "lying flat" push-pull operations to meet the complex needs of a real home environment.

Towards the Chinese market in the next decade

2023 will be Dyson's tenth year in China.

Over the past decade, Dyson has opened up and deepened the Chinese market with revolutionary products such as cordless vacuum cleaners, high-speed hair dryers and bladeless fans, filling the gap in the domestic high-end home appliance market. According to statistics, from the earliest vacuum cleaners and leafless heaters, to the air purification headphones and floor cleaners in the first half of 2023, Dyson has launched innovative products across six categories in China.

Standing at the starting point of the next decade in the Chinese market, Dyson's first WashG1 washing machine in China is not accidental, the birth of this product is inseparable from Dyson's long-term insight into the wet cleaning habits of Chinese consumers. Charlie Park told Yiou that Chinese consumers are willing to try new technologies and value the cleaning effect, which is one reason why the floor washing machine can be popular in China.

As early as April this year, Dyson has already taken a foot to the floor washer circuit, launched the "dry and wet" V12 Detect Slim Nautik floor cleaner. However, the positioning of this product is mainly "a multi-purpose machine", through the replacement of accessories to meet different home cleaning needs.

In contrast, the WashG1, designed for wet cleaning scenarios, is Dyson's first true floor washer. With the launch of WashG1, Dyson's whole-house cleaning solution has been further expanded.

Despite entering the circuit relatively late domestic brands, Dyson still has the confidence to win.
