The results come from 11 countries and include: China, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Korea. The survey shows what respondents around the world think should be the focus of innovation in the future, as well as their views on the technologies mentioned in the five core trends.
• Science and technology
Public health (50%), extreme climate crisis (45%), ecological disaster (39%), humanitarian crisis (36%) and other important issues that Chinese people should pay attention to first in scientific and technological innovation in the next five years.
• Mainstream virtual reality (VR)
52% of Chinese people expect VR to become a part of our daily lives faster than other technologies, especially in gaming and entertainment, in the next five years and 35% in the next six to 10 years.
• Sustainable development: major environmental threats
89% of Chinese respondents said single-use plastics are a bigger threat to the environment than fossil fuels (82%) and fast fashion (71%).
• Real life and technology
Technology-driven innovation has encountered some resistance in the post-pandemic era, as many people are trying to reduce the use of technology in their lives and seek out real offline socializing and hobbies. Compared with online social networking, 60% of Chinese respondents believe that real offline social networking can bring better communication experience. But when it comes to work, 58 percent of Chinese respondents still prefer to telecommute.
