The Central Economic Work Conference held in mid-December 2020 listed carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as one of the eight key tasks to be completed in 2021, and made it clear that carbon dioxide emissions should peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. With the top-level target set, a national campaign known as the "30·60" target is under way. If this goal can be achieved, it will not only change the energy structure, but also have a huge impact on China's economic development mode and industrial structure.

By the end of July, a roadmap for China's carbon peaking policy was looming, based on information released from around the world. Many major energy provinces have taken adjusting their energy structure, increasing the distribution of photovoltaic, wind power and other new energy sources, and reducing the total consumption of coal and other traditional energy sources as their near-term plan to achieve the carbon peak goal. And some energy enterprises, large energy consumption industry enterprises, have begun to take action, even many enterprises to "carbon peak" target to achieve node significantly ahead of time. The market challenges are huge.

In fact, as early as 2017, Nanjing University Environmental Protection has closely followed the development trend of low-carbon economy, deeply laid out the environmental protection industry around the low-carbon transition, gave full play to the advantages of "integration of industry, university and research", carried out technology research and technology reserves, and opened up the "last mile" of environmental scientific and technological achievements transformation.

As for the high concentration organic wastewater treatment and energy engineering project of Taixing Economic Development Zone, under full operation every year, the park treats 4 million tons of wastewater, reduces COD emission by 53,300 tons and generates 46 million KWH of electricity. The electricity generated by the project is incorporated into the national grid, indirectly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 14,000 tons per year compared with coal power generation. The park is currently ranked fifth in the "Top 30 Chemical Parks in 2021".

Similarly, in terms of the treatment and recycling of salicylic acid production wastewater, Nanjing University Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. has directly or indirectly reduced the carbon dioxide emissions brought by the original production process through the resin adsorption separation technology for recycling and energy, which has solved customers' pain points and rapidly opened the domestic market.

  Low carbon empowerment expands the boundaries of regional governance business development

If we say that technological breakthroughs are constantly meeting the green and low-carbon development needs of the environmental protection industry, then the construction of a green and safe third-party comprehensive environmental management in a new chemical park is a platform for Nanada Environmental Protection to realize its low-carbon ecological blueprint better and faster. This is not only related to the sustainable development and transformation and upgrading of the chemical industry park, but also an important means to deal with "carbon neutrality".

In Rudong Coastal Economic Development Zone of Jiangsu Province, the environmental protection consultation-style technical service platform launched by Nanjing University Environmental Protection has been well received by the environmental management departments in the service area and won the first place in the assessment of third-party technical service enterprises by the Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2017. As the only consulting service platform, the Center for International Cooperation on Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences and the China Circular Economy Association jointly promoted it nationwide as a "Typical Case of third-party Environmental pollution governance".

Similarly, NANDA Environmental Protection provides top-level planning consultation and environmental cloud standardization services for the chemical park in Xuwei New Area (Lianyungang Xuwei New Area), one of the seven national petrochemical bases, to explore the path of low-carbon transformation in the chemical park, enable green development, and actively face the "big test" of green transformation. It is reported that in May this year, the area has been officially listed in the "China smart chemical Industry Park pilot demonstration unit".

In addition, the university also takes into account the relationship between regional low-carbon and development, as well as the relationship between short-term and long-term, and scientifically and rationally formulates the 14th Five-Year Plan for ecological and environmental protection for Dafeng District of Yancheng City and other places. It defines the implementation path for the target of "carbon peak", such as controlling greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerates the green transformation of production and life style.

  The two systems plan to meet the two-carbon Target

Under the guidance of the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", Nanjing University Environmental Protection also popularized the "double carbon" knowledge and conducted carbon training through multiple channels and platforms.
