His father, Cheng Yang, was born in the countryside of Chaozhou. He came to Hong Kong in the 1930s. He was able to repair an old watch and sell it for a large profit.

After returning to Hong Kong, Yang Shu-shing regrouped and gradually consolidated his three major businesses, namely watches and jewellery, real estate and finance. After decades of business, Yang Shoucheng is deeply aware of the unpredictable world and priceless human relations. Therefore, he pays more attention to spending time with his family and friends. At the same time, he actively engages in charity work.
Early in his business career, Mr Yeung became the founding President of the South Kowloon Lions Club of Hong Kong in 1976. In the spirit of Lions Club International, a global service organisation, he led members in promoting diverse services for the benefit of young people and the elderly. In the 1980s, he returned to Chaozhou with his father and donated money to build a primary school to improve the quality of local education. In 1997, when the King's Group was already well established, Mr Yeung set up the King's Charity Fund to fund and participate in a wide range of activities covering education, healthcare, culture and environmental protection, with education being the most important part.
In 2008, Mr Yeung decided to invest more resources in caring for the elderly and set up the Yeung Care Foundation in his own name to focus on the development of caring for the elderly.
He has funded the construction of a number of service centres for the elderly both in China and in Hong Kong, such as the Yeung Shing Charitable Foundation Baoding Apartment for the Elderly and the Yeung Shing Charitable Foundation (Shunping) Elderly Service Centre. Together with his earlier projects, including the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Yeung Shing Memorial Long Term Care Home in Hong Kong and the Hubei Charity Hong Kong King's Care Centre for the Elderly in Hubei, He now owns nine services for the elderly. In 2012, Yang Shoucheng summed up his half-life struggle and published his biography, Qi Qi, hoping that his personal experience could be used as reference for future generations.
