French wine has always been dominant in China. Statistics show that French wine still accounts for half of China's imported wine market. But with the rapid growth of Spanish wine imports, Spain has become the third largest exporter of imported wine to China, after France and Australia. In the upcoming "China (Guangzhou) International Wine Fair" in May this year, Spanish vintners have begun "planning", Spanish wine is gradually occupying more Chinese market.

Wine merchant "high profile" layout

Compared with French wines, Spanish wines lack the opportunity. As Spanish wine is a relatively late entry into the Chinese market, it is still in the stage of wine dinners and tastings in major Chinese cities. On the other hand, French wine entered China earlier and its quality is very high. In addition, thanks to Italian cuisine, Italian wine has been promoted and supported by many restaurants. Still, more and more people are beginning to appreciate Spanish wine, thanks to its variety and value for money. Some Spanish vintners are making high-profile moves to the Chinese market.

At the upcoming China (Guangzhou) International Wine Fair in May this year, there will be more than 30 Spanish exhibitors with hundreds of Spanish wines, with an exhibition area of over 400 square meters.

As the largest cooperation partner in Asia, Spain has seized the opportunity to "plan a layout" in China.

From GREENWAYS MANAGEMENT S.L. in Spain. Hangzhou Rongou Trading Co., LTD., a Chinese company, mainly deals in wine, olive oil and other products originally imported from Spain. At the May wine show, they will present a number of exclusive brands from the Rioja, Ribera DelDuero Vandeka, Valencia Ungula Organic and ice wine collection, and other distinctive selections.

The DAVIDWINE COLLECTION, which owns 400 hectares of vineyards and specializes in agriculture and trade, will also present a variety of charming Spanish wines. In addition, there are many wine merchants to use the China (Guangzhou) International Wine Exhibition to promote new products, to expand the Chinese market.

Some Spanish exhibitors said that compared with the aging wine market in Europe and Western countries, we pay more attention to the new market of China. In such a promising market, Spanish wine has a broad space for development.

It is understood that compared with the last wine exhibition, the scale of this exhibition has been expanded, the exhibition area has been upgraded from 40,000 square meters to 50,000 square meters, equivalent to 2500 standard booths. It is expected that 50,000 brands from 72 wine producing countries will be exhibited, attracting more than 50,000 visitors, among which more than 95% are professional buyers.

Products are "in" the market

For years, Italy and France have vied for the top spot in the world in wine production, but the 2013 growing season was painful for grape farmers in both countries, especially France, where bad weather really threatened the fledgling bunches and production was reduced, with Italy and France producing an estimated 4.7 billion liters and 4.2 billion liters respectively. The International Organization of Vine and Wine will issue final figures in May.

In Spain, the opposite is true. Official figures show that the country had a good sun to rain ratio last year and produced a record five billion litres of wine, well above the average annual output of 3.5 billion litres in the 1990s. For the first time, Spain has become the world's largest wine producer, overtaking France and Italy, the two giants of wine production.

For the past two years, Spanish wine exports have exceeded domestic consumption by more than twice. Meanwhile, China's imports of Spanish wine have nearly tripled in the past three years, and Spain has overtaken Italy and Chile to become the third-largest supplier to the vast market after France and Australia.

In the eyes of Li Zhiyan, an Asian wine master, Spanish wine is actually becoming more and more popular now, and more and more people appreciate the variety and cost-effective advantages of Spanish wine. For example, the opening of many Spanish restaurants also provides new channels and opportunities. The Spanish wines themselves are very good value for money. They meet the requirements of European wines, some of which are comparable to the highest quality Bordeaux wines in terms of aging potential, but cheaper than the traditional houses in France and Italy. Rioja, the most talked about region in Spain, has a deep relationship with Bordeaux. Blind tasting will make a difference, Rioja's overall taste is sweeter than France's. With bright, bright color and fruit flavor, has its own unique temperament. (by Liao Liang)
