In 2012, who is better than Lei Jun?

On November 21, YY(Happy Times), an angel investor of Lei Jun, went public on Nasdaq. Seven years ago, a $1 million investment, the current book return is about 280 times. Xiaomi received a new round of funding in June of $216 million at a valuation of $4 billion, and sales are booming, he told Chuangyebang. Xiaomi's sales in the past fiscal year (which ended in November) exceeded 10 billion yuan. A week before YY went public, the Mi Box was released, which revealed Xiaomi's ambitions in Internet video and mobile accessories, although its future was unclear due to the supervision of China's radio and television authorities.

Lei Jun was awarded the 2008 Angel Investor of the Year in China by Chuangyubang Media. After the listing of Kingsoft, he successively invested in Vancl, Ucweb, Multi-Play (YY at that time), Letao, and Xiaomi. In 2011, he appeared in front of everyone as an entrepreneur. His territories range from online games (one of Kingsoft's key businesses), e-commerce, and mobile phone hardware products. He is also known by domestic entrepreneurs as one of the "most worried angel investors", usually "only invest 2 million yuan, angel investment usually accounts for 15%", willing to accompany entrepreneurs from scratch, spare no effort to contribute ideas and contacts.

In his acceptance speech at the 2012 Annual Conference, Lei Jun said he built Xiaomi because of luck. "If people think Xiaomi has a little success, 85 percent of it is due to luck, which is not modesty," he said.

Mr. Lei said he is not as good at Xiaomi as he was in the days of Jinshan, when he worked seven days a week and left at 12 a.m. "But how useful is that? We have been taught that success is 99 percent sweat and 1 percent luck, so we have to work harder, but one percent luck is more than 99 percent hard work.

Lei Jun is famous for saying that "pigs can fly as long as they stand in the wind". At the annual meeting, he offered three pieces of advice to entrepreneurs: First, entrepreneurs should acknowledge the importance of luck; Second, don't believe in failure, because most people will fail; Third, entrepreneurs must stick to the line on the way to start a business, one day the pie will fall on your mouth.
