Republic of Singapore (English: Republic of Singapore), referred to as Singapore (Singapore), formerly known as Singjiapo, Sin Chew or Sing Dao, don't call it the Lion City, is an island country in Southeast Asia, the political system is a parliamentary republic, the capital city of Singapore.

Singapore is located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and the entrance to the Strait of Malacca. It is composed of Singapore Island and 63 nearby islets, among which Singapore Island accounts for 88.5% of the country's total area. Singapore Island is about 50 kilometers east and west, 26 kilometers north and south, with a land area of 728.6 square kilometers.

As of August 2021, Singapore has a total population of 5.686 million, with 4.044 million citizens and permanent residents. The main ethnic groups are Chinese, Malay and Indian. Singapore was called Temasek in ancient times. The 8th century belonged to the Sri Buddha Dynasty. It was part of the Malay Kingdom of Johor from the 18th to the 19th centuries. In 1819, an Englishman, Stanford Raffles, arrived in Singapore and contracted with the Sultan of Johor to set up a trading post. In 1824, it became a British colony. It was occupied by Japan in 1942.

After Japan surrendered in 1945, Britain resumed colonial rule and made it a direct colony the following year. In 1959, it achieved autonomy and became an autonomous state. In September 1963, it formed the Federation of Malaysia together with Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak. On 9 August 1965, it separated from Malaysia and became the Republic of Singapore. It became a member of the United Nations in September of that year and joined the Commonwealth of Nations in October of that year.

Singapore is a city-state, so there are no provinces and cities. Instead, the country is divided into five communities (administrative districts) in a manner consistent with urban planning, named Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest and Central Community Councils. In 2020, these five communities will be divided into 31 constituencies, including 14 single constituencies and 17 GRCS. Singapore is one of the four Asian Tigers. In 2020, Singapore's GDP was US $340 billion, per capita GDP was US $59,800, GDP growth was -5.8%, and total trade was US $692.36 billion.
