/PRZWT/ On February 12th, Samsung Electronics, as a global partner of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, announced that it would provide professional display equipment for some short track speed skating events of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics to support the event officiating and broadcasting production.
Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Division of Samsung Electronics, said: "In those critical decision-making scenarios that heavily rely on what the human eye sees, the accuracy and reliability of the images are of utmost importance. We are very proud to see that Samsung professional displays have been applied in these real event scenarios. In the future, we will continue to focus on developing precise and trustworthy display technologies."
As one of the fastest and most technically demanding events in the Winter Olympics, the outcome of short track speed skating is often determined by a fraction of a second - sometimes the difference is as small as 0.001 seconds. The decision-making process often depends on the exact moment when the athlete makes contact or when the skater's blade touches the ice. Under such circumstances, the judges need to rely on high-speed camera systems and real-time video replays for assessment to ensure the fairness and impartiality of the competition.
To support this process in the short track speed skating event, Samsung professional monitors were used for real-time video playback and race schedule monitoring. With these monitors, the judges could clearly identify key moments and make decisions with confidence.
ViewFinity S8 from Weidu: Facilitating the refereeing process with clear and reliable video playback
At the referee area near the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics venue, Samsung deployed 37-inch ViewFinity S8 monitors (S80UD), which helped ensure fair competition through real-time video playback and event monitoring.
The Samsung Display ViewFinity S8 features a 4K ultra-high-definition resolution (3,840×2,160) and a 16:9 screen ratio, offering a wider field of view for display, which facilitates referees to examine fine details without sacrificing clarity. Compared to conventional 32-inch displays, its larger screen enables clearer viewing of even the slightest moments at the same magnification, giving referees greater confidence when reviewing videos. Additionally, the HDR10 technology further enhances contrast and color performance, ensuring that the video signals during critical decision-making moments are accurately reproduced.
Xuanlong Knight Gaming Display Ark: Empowering Event Broadcasting and Production Work
The Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), which provides official broadcasting services for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has also installed Samsung displays in its video production studio. In these broadcasting and production scenarios, the 55-inch Samsung Odyssey Gaming Display Ark, with a 1000R curvature and 4K ultra-high-definition resolution (3,840×2,160), supports the team in monitoring multiple live signals.
The Samsung X Dragon Knight Gaming Monitor Ark is designed to enhance the sense of immersion while minimizing visual distortion, helping the broadcasting team clearly grasp the on-field dynamics in high-intensity and fast-paced competitions. Its 1ms gray-scale response (1) ensures the clarity and stability of dynamic images, providing a smooth monitoring experience throughout the live broadcast production process.
Bring advanced display technology to global sports events
During the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Samsung is conducting its global Olympic and Paralympic partnership campaign - "Open Always Wins". This campaign was first launched at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, conveying the open values of embracing differences and rejecting discrimination, as well as creating more possibilities through collaboration. At the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Samsung's Olympic Athlete Ambassador also conveyed this concept.
Based on the practical experience gained from the on-site competitions and broadcasts of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Samsung will continue to upgrade its display solutions for global sports events and complex on-site operations, and is committed to providing support for fair competition enforcement and seamless broadcast production under the most demanding conditions.
