Before Wuhan P4 laboratory was built, only France, Canada, Germany, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and other major developed countries in the world had such devices.
After the outbreak of SARS in 2003, China started the construction of P4 laboratory strategically. After more than 10 years of construction, Wuhan P4 laboratory was officially put into operation.

Wuhan P4 laboratory is a suspended structure, divided into four floors. From the bottom up, the bottom floor is sewage treatment and life support system; The second level is the core laboratory; The third layer is the filter system; The top level is the air conditioning system. The P4 laboratory includes cell laboratory, animal laboratory, dissection room and bacteria and virus preservation room.
Entering the laboratory requires layers of disinfection, wearing a positive pressure isolation protective suit with a transparent inflatable cover on the head and a blue breathing belt connected at the bottom to ensure that researchers can breathe in the protective suit without any contact with outside air.
